16/11/12 sightings from an Autumn/ Winter walk

Yet again I went on the same Autumn walk but today it felt alot like a winter walk but there was some great sightings although the foggy start and finish to the day. I went on the walk at 9:30-10:00 and then again from 15:45- 16:15. The birds I saw included:

                                                                     Mistle thrush
                                                                  2 adult male blackbirds
                                                                             Redwing

                                                                           Fieldfares
                                                                          JAY
Redwing
  • 30+ house sparrow
  • 40+ Starlings
  • 30+ wood pigeons
  • Several gull species including mostly common and black headed gulls which all together added up to at least 50.
  • 40+ jackdaws
  • 30+ rooks
  • 30+ carrion crows
  • 40+ blue tits- More in bigger flocks in the evening whereas in the morning they were being sighted singly.
  • 4 magpies
  • 10 great tits
  • 1 long tailed tit
  • 1 kestrel- on the wires again
  • 15 collard doves
  • 7 chaffinches
  • 8 gold finches
  • 10 ferel pigeons
  • 2 CORMORANTS- flew over together. This year there's been a big difference in numbers than last year as there was roughly half the amount.
  • 1 MISTLE THRUSH- by the scout hut in one of the trees but it flew off towards the tree it was in on the 14th.
  • 60+ FIELDFARE- flying from the berry bushes and to the trees by the river.
  • 40+ REDWING- Lots in the berry bushes but they were too quick to fly when they saw other people.
  • 1 LITTLE EGRET- Not rare at all but its the first of the winter
  • 1 JAY- This individual has been in the garden, on the other side of the town, sighted on this walk as well as feeding in several trees.
  • 40+ Blackbirds- a big influx possibly because it was in the morning but unusual numbers.
  • 5 GOLD CREST- together feeding frantically throughout the berry trees. Because they were so active photos were hard to take (16:00)
  • 1 GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER- Calling
Other news:

On the 14/11/12 the woodpecker was identified as a GREEN WOODPECKER which isn't usually sighted on the walk and around the town.
