29/11/12 and the 30/11/12 garden sightings

No sightings on the 30th exept from a few redwing and corvids as I had to go out all day which in the time I saw lots of species of gulls but no rare gulls and lots of species of corvids.

29/11/12 sightings

Chaffinch
  • 30+ Redwing flew over and was feeding in the 2nd berry bush
  • 10+ Blackbirds- 4 1st winter adult males, 2 adult males and an adult female in the trees and even a few roosted throughout the night.
  • 2 Gold crests in the trees
  • Several house sparrows
  • 30+ Starlings
  • 30+ Jackdaws
  • A few carrion crows
  • 10 rooks
  • 1 robin
  • 30+ blue tits
  • 20+ great tits
  • several gull species
  • 1 Female sparrowhawk almost killed an adult male male in the 1st berry bush but she was too quick for any photos
  • 15+ chaffinches
  • 3 gold finches flew over
  • A few collard doves
  • Lots of wood pigeons flew
  • 0 ferel pigeons sighted in the time I was outside
  • 4 Magpies

The 30 minute Autumn walks sightings on the 28th

Today the walk was a little later and as a result I saw the starlings preforming their Autumn roost. There was roughly 50- 70 birds but it wasn't the best as 2010 when there was 250- 300 taking to the skies.

The 26th- 28th quick sightings from the garden

Garden sightings on the 25/11/12

With 28 different species of birds sighted today throughout the rain with a few times the sun came out it was good to hear all of them and to see them. Hopefully a brambling turns up in the holly tree because there is hundreds which winter in Britian each year and it would be a good sight.

Lots of garden sightings today and 7 different types of birds which isn't the highest but the hightest was 8 different species of birds on the 1/5/12.

Other Rare bird sightings

  • Waxwings in several places in Hereford Gloucestershire and Glomorgan
  • The Long billed dotwichers still at Slimbridge WWT
  • The 1st winter Grey phalarope has been sighted again for its 3rd day
  • A ring necked duck has been sighted at Chew Valley Lake (Somerset)
  • The Yellow browed warbler has been heard and seen again at Oldbury Power Station

A walk in the floods around the town and bird sightings on the 25/11/12

After lots of rain over this week and the weekend lots of the fields around the town have been flooded. Some of the main roads have also been flooded because we have 4 rivers around us and all of them have flooded.
When we went on the walk there was a lot of birds sighted partly because of the houses in the town as well as the flooded fields.

  • 12 Canada geese- the geese from Berkeley power station have flown in land and landed on a very flooded river which they aren't usually sighted here.

  • 1 Nuthatch feeding in a garden which usually gets a lot of thrushes in the trees.The nuthatch normally feeds and breeds in the forests but in the winter a few move from the woods to the gardens
