SARA Sharpness sightings 25/11/12

With the flooding the canal has been turned all muddy and the river was at high tide and it was rainy so not a lot of birds sighted.

The Autumn walk sightings on the 24/11/12.

As lots of the fields are flooded as both rivers burst their bank several fields have lots of gulls feeding in them. Also this has been very wide spread throughout the west country of Britian and a 1st winter GREY PHALAROPE has even been sighted in a flooded field by the Yeo estuary in Somerset which is quite rare for the area. I went on the walk when it was raining so small amount of birds were sighted as a result.

There was:
                                        A pied wagtail infront of a black headed gull

  • 10+ fieldfare
  • 10+ redwing
  • 5 blue tits
  • 5 gold finches
  • 10+ blackbirds which were adult males and adult females but No 1st winters today.
  • 30+ rooks

  • 1 lesser black backed gull
  • 50+ black headed gulls
  • 50+ common gulls
  • 13+ herring gulls
  • 1 pied wagtail
  • 40+ wood pigeons
  • 3 collard doves
  • 1 raven

24/11/12 garden sightings

In the morning for roughly an hour it was over cast with no rain. After that hour the rain was consistent and lots of birds were sighted before as a result of the nice start and I counted 26 different species all day.

  • 15+ Redwing- feeding together in a holly bush and only 1 landed in the berry bush

21/11/12 and 22/11/12 sightings from the garden

After two days of rain very few birds was sighted but on the 21/11/12 in the afternoon there was some sun shine so there was an increase of sighting whereas on the 22/11/12 it was very and windy.

  • 6 chaffinches in the trees on the 21st
  • 13+ blue tits in the trees (21st)
  • 2 1st winter blackbirds roosted in the apple tree on the 21st
  • 3 carrion crows flew over (21st)
  • 13+ rooks flew over (22nd)
  • 4 mallard ducks flew over on the 21st
  • 2 mistle thrushes flew over on the 21st
  • 30+ jackdaws on both days
  • 30+ starlings on both days
  • 3 great tits on the 21st
  • 2 green finches flew over on the 21st
  • 20+ redwing flew over on both days
  • 1 BRAMBLING- 1st sighting of the year and the 2nd ever time i've seen 1.
  • 2 LINNETS flew over on the 21st
  • 10+ fieldfares flew over (21st)
  • 3 gold crests calling and feeding in the trees on the 21st
  • 400+ Gulls flew over on both days but at least 350+ on the 21st whereas only 50 on the 22nd partly because of the wind and rain

Very stormy and rainy day so sightings were minimal.
