Sharpness picnic area and SARA sightings

Today I didnt go to the River Severn and see as many birds as I liked but I did see some which was good. One of the reasons was because it wasn't low tide but not high tide. Birds included

At the picnic area

  • 2 redshank

  • 1 magpie
  • 1 adult male blackbird
  • 3 house sparrows
  • 14 black headed gulls
  • 2 blue tits
  • 1 GOLD CREST
At SARA

  • 1great crested grebe

  • 5 cormarants
  • 1 grey heron
  • 10 herring gulls
  • 1 great black backed gull
  • 1 male blackbird
  • 40+ rooks, jackdaws and crows feeding on the mud
  • 6 redshank
  • 17 black headed gulls

An Autumn walk with lots of THRUSHES

Today I went on a walk down a little river which is near my house. After it rained a little bit hundreds of thrushes were in the trees in one of many fields around us.

3/11/12 sightings at Sand Point highlight HOOPOE

Sightings included the HOOPOE which has been around for about a week.Because Sand Point is next to the River Severn and the Bristol Channel there was several curlews and an Autumn flock of about 20 starlings which was getting scared by the curlew, at least 20 carrion crows, a lesser black backed gull and a female kestrel. In the bushes on the side by the dunes there was a flock of house sparrows which were churping next to the car park.

These sightings are ones which I saw before I went to Sand Point in Somerset.

Flying over

  • 30+ jackdaws
  • 9 carrion crows
  • 30+ starlings
  • Several gull spicies such as herring gulls, common gulls and a few black headed and a lesser black backed gull
  • 20+ wood pigeons
  • 6 rooks
  • 3 buzzards
  • 1 GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER Heard behind the opposite houses calling in the nearby fields with a few woodlands
  • 1 CORMARANT
  • 9 REDWINGS
  • 3 FIELDFARES
Trees

  • 2 magpies
  • 4 goldfinches
  • 1 robin
  • 1 dunnock
  • 20+ starlings
  • 2 great tits
  • 5 blue tits
  • 20+ jackdaws
  • 40+ chaffinches mostly males but a few females in the flocks which flew past and landed in the trees around me.

2/11/12 sightings

Over sightings near by

  • YELLOW BROWED WARBLER at Slimbridge WWT- 3rd ever record
  • 100+ PIED WAGTAILS in roost at Berkeley Heath with a fly over mistle thrush and a buzzard up Taits hill in the evening and this morning several gull species were feeding on the fields.

  • 30+ jackdaws
  • 1 collard dove
  • 30+ starlings
  • 1 herring gull
  • 1 Great spotted woodpecker- 3rd in the year
  • 1 pied wagtail
  • 1 wood pigeon
